Shot List - Film Trailer

Below is a shot list in which I have created using my storyboard for my film trailer. By having a shot list I have a clear vision in which each clip will be taken using different types of shots which will be most effective when creating a successful film trailer which will appeal to my target audience. Bearing in mind this is a shot list which is subject to change when actually shooting our film trailer as different shots may potentially work more effectively when we actually come to shoot our film trailer.

Reflection on planning and pre-production work

Overall, reflecting on my planning and pre-production work I believe this has helped me as an individual and as a group (Me, Lydia and Ella) in numerous of ways. It has given me a clear vision in what I need to complete in order for my production work to appeal to my target audience in the best possible way. By completing all the individual planning and pre-production work coming up with different ideas and storylines then merging our work together to create a new storyline for our film.

Initially starting with a task list of a rough set of tasks in which we needed to complete to construct our coursework to the best of our ability. Then going on to analyse film trailers and film posters of successful action thriller films such as Fast & Furious 6, The Dark Knight, Gone Girl, Face/Off, The Bourne Ultimatum, Taken and so on gave us a clearer idea on all the conventions that needed to be included in order to conform our own action thriller film. Therefore this itself links back to the specification stating "The purpose of this unit is firstly to asses candidates' ability to plan and construct media products using appropriate technical and creative skills (AO3)" which I believe I am meeting the needs of the brief well.

In addition to this, I also believe that I am meeting the needs of my target audience whom are predominately female, sixteen to twenty four year olds and who are London based. I know I have been meeting their needs through surveys and constant feedback throughout my coursework from my target audience. I have taken into consideration all the elements of my coursework they think are effective as well as the elements in which they think could be improved and acted upon them. For example, the name of my original film was "Obses" due to the fact the Latin meaning of this word means security linking this back to our institution name "Uada films"; uada meaning haunted. As a group we thought this would be a good link with the latin meanings, however target audience feedback suggested otherwise. Our target audience were confused by the name as they thought we meant 'obsess' but had a spelling mistake throughout, due to this reason we decided to change the name of our film to "Obsess" as after all our target audience are London based and do not speak Latin. This now means that all my final promotional campaign products (film trailer, film poster and magazine front cover) will not promote the film "Obsess".

Ideas for sound on trailer

Online sound:-
Free sound
Free SFX
Universal Soundtrack

Focusing on the three different websites for online sound, which are Free Sound, Free SFX and Universal Soundtrack. All three online websites are websites in which users are able to download a range of different sound effects or soundtracks online for free as an MP3.  Therefore the fact that users are able to download a different range of sounds for free as an MP3 file are all advantages. However, disadvantages consist of if the particular sound you are looking for is not available to the standards you want this may affect the piece you are creating. In addition to this, the sound quality may not be of a high quality therefore may not be as effective; plus the sound length of the track you download may not be long enough for your piece of work making your work sound repetitive and not as successful as you would have to keep repeating the soundtrack in order for it to work to some extent.

Audio editing software:-
NCH Software
Audacity
Kangasound
http://www.kangasound.com

Focusing on the three different websites for audio editing software, which are NCH Software, Audacity and Kangasound. All three websites are websites in which users are able to down audio editing software for free. The software is compatible on Mac computers and as I am using a Macbook Pro for the majority of my work, this is an advantage. An advantage of the audio editing softwares I have chosen is that the user is able to create sound effects and sound tracks with them easily. The software NCH has to offer is called "Wavepad" this has been voted one of the best audio editing software to use my Mac users. Wavepad is a full featured professional audio and music editor for Windows and Mac. Users are able to record and edit music, voice and other audio recordings. When editing audio files, users can cut, copy and paste parts of recordings, and then add effects like echo, amplification and noise reduction. WavePad works as a wav or mp3 editor, but it also supports a number of other file formats including vox, gsm, wma, real audio, au, aif, flac, ogg, and more.

However, Mac does offer the "Garageband" software in which I have used before in the past, therefore I have experience using this software. Advantages of Garageband is that it is easy to export mp3 or mov to save and/or upload files. Users can make as many changes as necessary or needed while the file remains in Garage Band format. In addition to this you can save your work on a USB drive and open on any computer that has Garage Band on it. As a group we all have Macs available to use at all times so will be using "iMovie" to edit our film trailer on, therefore we feel that Garageband and iMovie will work successfully together as they are both Mac softwares we all have to use. When needing online sounds for sound effects, I have decided to use "Free SFX" as all the sounds have been put into categories so when looking for a particular sound it will be easy to locate. In addition to this, the sounds are easy to download and are virus free which has a big impact on our work.

We decided to go with using Garageband as we know someone who composes music and has used Garageband to a great extent before. Below is a video of her composing the music for our film trailer, editing the sounds she has previously recorded through the use of Garageband. Together as a group, working collaboratively to make the final soundtrack sound effective to work with our film trailer. However, if needed during the process of constructing our film trailer as the soundtrack has been edited on Garageband, it enables us to change and edit the music along the way.
